Join Maine's Employee Revolution!

AGEM - The Associated Government Employees of Maine, is a new and exciting, not-for-profit employee association that is currently being developed by State of Maine employees as an alternative to other unions that are currently representing employees. Download our informational flyer here:

"The Associated Government Employees of Maine
A progressive approach to union representation"

The Maine State employees who are introducing this concept are diverse.young and old - women and men - skilled in various trades like computer technicians, clericals, designers, engineers and many others. What we all have in common is enthusiasm for a new and better way of doing business. We want representation that fits the 21st Century.not the 1920's.

Your Money...Your Way

As fellow state employees, we all know how hard we work for our money. That’s why we’re coming together to offer an alternative to the bloated costs of traditional union membership. AGEM wants a no-frills approach to bargaining representation…..no money leaving Maine for out-of-state overhead expenses, no lining the pockets of politicians, no old fashioned cronyism. Instead let’s bring a fresh, lean, no-nonsense approach to the bargaining table!

Do you know where your dues are going and who they are benefiting? And more importantly, how much of the dues you are paying go directly to benefit you and your fellow workers - Maine State Employees? It's time to know and trust where your money is going.

A Smart & Streamlined Approach to Bargaining

  • Non-political representation
No funding political campaigns or politicians.

  • Effective contract bargaining
Continually look at innovative and progressive ways to represent, protect and benefit State Employees.

  • Voluntary membership
We believe that all employees should have a choice. Pay for only those services that you want or need. No service fees....no fear of losing your job because you didn't join.

  • Minimal overhead costs
So more of our money goes directly towards activities that benefit us.

  • Maine based and employee run

  • Lets keep our hard earned money here in Maine working for Maine State Employees, Not funding out-of-state big labor.

No Strings Attached Income Protection
(Disability) Insurance

Shouldn't all state employees have access to group-rate income protection (disability) insurance, without having to join a union? AGEM offers just that, at an affordable price! Open enrollment starts now through the end of the year (December 31, 2006).

  • Card Check Flip-Flop - No more democratic secret ballots?

The SEIU is a leading proponent of an organizing process known as “card check.” Rather than relying on the traditional method of a government monitored secret ballot, card check stipulates that if union representatives persuade more than 50 percent of the workers to sign a union authorization card, the employer can choose to recognize the union as the representative of 100 percent of the workforce.

This method is susceptible to fraud and intimidation,...

  • Choose to Have Your Voice Heard!

If you believe that state workers deserve a choice and that MSEA should prove their worth, then sign a decertification petition (showing of interest form)!

We know that change is not easy and certainly doesn't come without some risks, but the alternative is complacency...

  • Decertification Forms are COMPLETELY CONFIDENTIAL!

Many employees have voiced their concerns over whether MSEA would see who signed the decertification forms call "showing of interest" forms. The answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT. The only people who see these forms are the people who have collected them and the Maine Labor Relations Board (MLRB). The MLRB cannot disclose who signed the forms to any 3rd party entity.  MSEA will not know who signed the forms. read more...
